How much does a bathroom or kitchen plumbing remodel cost in Toronto?

A single fixture swap (like a new toilet or faucet) usually runs a few hundred dollars in labour. Relocating drains or supply lines for a full bathroom remodel typically lands in the $3,000 to $8,000 range for plumbing alone, before tile, vanity, or fixtures. A kitchen remodel that moves a sink or adds an island drain often costs more due to venting requirements. Get itemized quotes since permit fees and drywall repair are sometimes billed separately.

Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom or kitchen in Toronto?

If you're moving a toilet, adding a fixture, or changing the drain layout, yes, the City of Toronto requires a permit and inspection. Straight fixture replacement in the same location (like a new sink in the old spot) usually doesn't need one. A reputable plumber will tell you upfront which category your project falls into.

How do I know if a plumber does quality remodel work?

Look for a clear written scope, proof of licensing and insurance, and willingness to pull permits themselves rather than leaving it to you. Ask how they handle inspections and what happens if something fails. Consistent review patterns for renovation-specific jobs (not just emergency repairs) are a good sign they handle this scope of work regularly.

How often does bathroom or kitchen plumbing need to be redone?

Plumbing itself can last decades if installed correctly, but most homeowners touch it again when they renovate for style or layout reasons, roughly every 15 to 25 years for a full remodel. Fixtures like faucets and toilets often get replaced sooner, every 10 to 15 years, due to wear rather than plumbing failure.

Bathroom & Kitchen Plumbing Remodel in Ontario

A bathroom or kitchen remodel touches almost every plumbing system in the house at once: supply lines, drains, vents, and often the rough-in behind the walls or under the slab. Moving a toilet, adding a second sink, relocating a shower drain, or swapping in an island sink with a new drain run all count as remodel work rather than simple repair, and that changes what you should expect from a contractor. We've listed 55 plumbers across Toronto who take on this kind of project, from single-fixture swaps to full gut renovations.

What this work actually involves

Depending on scope, a remodel plumber might disconnect and reset fixtures, run new copper or PEX supply lines, reroute drain-waste-vent piping, tie into stack vents, install shutoff valves, and coordinate with the tile setter or cabinet installer so rough-ins land in the right spot before walls close up. Larger jobs, especially anything moving a toilet or adding a fixture, usually need a permit from the City of Toronto and an inspection before drywall goes up.

What to look for before you hire

Ask whether the company pulls permits itself and includes inspection scheduling in the quote. Ask for a written scope that separates rough-in, fixture installation, and finish work, since disputes usually come from vague pricing at that boundary. Check whether they carry insurance for water damage, since a bad solder joint or a cracked drain fitting under a new floor is expensive to fix twice. A contractor who wants to see the space or your drawings before quoting is generally more reliable than one who prices a bathroom remodel over the phone.

We rank plumbers using verified review volume and rating trends, how consistently they show up for licensed plumbing work versus general handyman jobs, and signals like response time and complaint patterns. Trustflow sends the same technicians (Dave and Mike are named repeatedly) to handle jobs from start to finish, and both are known for showing up on time, explaining problems in plain terms, and testing their work multiple times before leaving. Bathroom and kitchen installs, leak repairs, and drain work dominate the reviews, and customers consistently note that pricing feels fair with no pressure to buy extras, though the work itself is what they praise most: neatly finished installs, hidden leaks found without mess, and toilets that keep running long after they've gone. Installation jobs get detailed attention-checking for leaks, ensuring fixtures sit level, cleaning up the work area-and the fact that reviewers mention testing faucets "several times" or showers working "stress-free" suggests a standard that goes beyond quick fixes. Emergency calls are handled the same way, with customers reporting that urgent drain clogs and burst pipes get resolved the same day, often by the same person who explains what went wrong.
